The method of deletion in linguistic theories - The generative transformational school as a model –
Keywords:
deletion, surface structure, deep structure.Abstract
The phenomenon of deletion has been the focus of Western studies and linguistic schools. Each of these schools approached the phenomenon from its own perspective and belief. Some linked it to the mind of the recipient, viewing it as a linguistic phenomenon subject to the principles of generation and transformation. This is exemplified by the generative-transformational theory, which,
through its various stages, acknowledged the presence of deletion in the deep structure, which the recipient seeks to infer from the surface structure.
